Explore the Ribble Valley and discover what makes the region one of the happiest in the UK! We visit the summit of Hoghton Tower, standing at 650 ft with panoramic views across Lancashire and see great scenery from lower down on the East Lancashire Railway, one of the best kept 19th century heritage railways. One day we have the award-winning Simon Entwistle onboard for a captivating coach tour through the enchanting Ribble Valley. Finally, Dewlay Cheesemakers have a reputation for producing the very best of Lancashire cheese and we have a tour and of course tasting! This year we stay at the luxurious Foxfields Hotel in the heart of the Ribble Valley.
Monday We travel north with a lunch time stop at Trentham Shopping Centre.
Tours at Resort
A | To Hoghton Tower and from the top we can see from the Lake District to North Wales! We have a private tour that brings the tower to life with mentions of previous visitors such as Queen Mary and Shakespeare! Then to Dewlay Cheesemakers, run by its third-generation owners, continue to produce award-winning cheese using the same traditional methods their grandfather used in the 1950s. Witness the curdling, cutting, and packing in action during a guided tour, before indulging in a tutored tasting.
B | We see the best of the Ribble Valley with a local guide onboard, meandering through quaint villages and rolling hills.
C | Steam back into nostalgic times as we ride on one of the UK’s best-kept 19th-century heritage railways. With lovingly restored vintage carriages, we sit back and relax on an unforgettable journey through the beautiful Irwell Valley with its rolling green hills and picturesque villages. We also visit Bury Transport Museum and speed back through the North West’s industrial history, brought to life by hands-on exhibits and full-size vehicles. Displayed for public access for the first time, get up close to the iconic Union of South Africa, one of only six in the world.
Friday We return home with a stop on the Waterfront in Liverpool, overlooked by the Liver Birds.
