Middlemarch Country, Spalding and Surrounding Area

Friday We travel to our hotel via a lunchtime stop in the fantastic city of Cambridge. In the evening we have a welcome talk on the area from a local guide.

Saturday We step back in time as we take a ride on the Nene Valley Railway from Peterborough to Wansford. From here we travel to the delightful town of Stamford for free time. The popular TV series Middlemarch was filmed here. We finish our day visiting Belton House, a beautiful country estate with fascinating parklands.

Sunday To Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre where we can discover pretty birds and even stroke a tame fox! A bird show is included before we head for a lunchtime stop in the “tulip town” of Spalding. Later we visit restored Heckington Windmill and enjoy a guided tour.

Monday A highlight as we visit Sandringham Estate, the Queen’s country retreat where we have entry to the house, gardens and museum. Later we continue to King’s Lynn where a local guide will show us around this popular town which has plenty of maritime history.

Tuesday We return via a different route with a lunchtime stop in Stratford upon Avon.
