We explore timeless Tipperary and the Shannon region with day trips to Limerick and Clare. Our hotel gives us a real flavour of this area, with an Irish night, including music from local Comhaltas group, an after-dinner talk by a local historian, a chef’s bread-making demonstration and live music on another night. We travel out via Rosslare and return via the PM ferry from Dublin, so we get to see as much of the country as possible on a circular route at a super price.
Sunday To Pembrokeshire for our ferry crossing to Rosslare and on to Waterford. Our hotel is the superb 3 star Dooley’s.
Monday Into County Tipperary and our first short stop is Cahir, an attractive and elegant town situated on the River Suir. We then visit one of Ireland’s most famous attractions, the Rock of Cashel. The Rock is home to over 1000 years of history silhouetted against the sky, rising above the green surrounding fields. Then on to Killaloe and our hotel for 3 nights where we have a Welcome Reception.
Tuesday To Bunratty for a visit to the most complete and authentic Castle in Ireland. The site has been used since 970 when the Vikings had a trading camp here. There is also a 19th century Folk Park where you can experience a reconstruction of the homes and environment of Ireland over 100 years ago. Later we board the Spirit of Killaloe for an hour long scenic cruise on lovely Lough Derg.
Wednesday We spend the morning in Limerick, a Georgian marvel that’s home to artistic treasures and is the birthplace of Sir Terry Wogan. Following time for lunch we return for free time in Killaloe and you can cross a 13 arch bridge to visit Ballina on the other side of the River Shannon. Both towns are regarded as among Ireland’s most picturesque attractions.
