Jacobite Steam Train and Loch Ness Cruise

Fort William

Spectacular Highland scenery awaits on one of the world’s most famous rail journeys and also along the most infamous of lochs. We pass through The Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park on our way to Fort William, and return through the Cairngorms National Park, so even our travelling days are full of scenery and interest. This year we have extended the tour by a day so there is time to explore Fort William itself.

Sunday We head north to our overnight hotel in Gretna Green and we arrive in time for you to have a look around the famous sights in this historic town. Our hotel is the 3 star Gretna Hall Hotel.

Monday  We pass Glasgow and make a stop at the Loch Lomond Shores, with shops, eating options and walks on the banks of the loch. Great views all the way from here as we travel along the banks of Loch Lomond and then through wonderful Highland scenery, including Ben Nevis, to our base for 4 nights, Fort William.

Tuesday We board the Jacobite Steam Train for a 2 hour single journey on what is regarded as one of the World’s greatest rail journeys to Mallaig. This was the route used by the Hogwarts Express and there are views of the mighty Ben Nevis, Loch Morar and over the famous 21-arch Glenfinnan Viaduct. A truly magical experience and we have free time in Mallaig before our return by coach to the hotel with more great scenery.

Wednesday To Fort Augustus, a lovely town where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness. Following free time we board our boat for a wonderfully relaxing cruise on Loch Ness with stunning views of Urquhart Castle and possibly Nessie!

Thursday A free day to explore Fort William or there is a great local bus service if you wish to explore further. Or just relax in our hotel.

Friday More Highland scenery as we head south via the Cairngorms National Park.  We make a lunchtime stop in Pitlochry with its clear sparkling air, beautiful scenery and rich clan history. Our overnight hotel is in Gretna Green again.

Saturday We return home.
