Monday We travel north with a lunchtime stop at Trentham Shopping Village.
Tuesday We make a short morning stop at Bolton Abbey, the amazing ruins of a priory surrounded by the “jewel in the crown” of Yorkshire’s many landscapes. Then to the nearby station for a return ride on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway, an evocative steam ride in beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages with fine views. On our return we make a stop in the picturesque village of Haworth, surrounded by purple moors and where the world of Wuthering Heights is brought to life.
Wednesday Steeped in history and natural scenic beauty, the Leeds Liverpool canal is a truly fascinating waterway. Departing from Skipton our skipper unravels the 200 year-old tale of the canal while passing through spectacular scenery, mill buildings and swing bridges. The trip includes tea/ coffee and biscuits. Following free time for lunch we board a train to Carlisle which includes the famous 72 mile stretch from Settle to Carlisle. This journey is steeped in history and it takes us through magnificent Yorkshire Dale scenery, over the 24 arches of the Ribblehead Viaduct and through the gentle, lush, rolling hills of the Eden Valley.
Thursday To Harrogate, an elegant Victorian Spa Town with handsome buildings, verdant gardens and great shopping. Later we stop in Hebden Bridge, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, this market town has been voted “greatest town in Europe”, “best small market town in the UK” and “fourth funkiest town in the world!”.
Friday To Bridgnorth for an afternoon stop and then to round the holiday off we enjoy a ride on the Severn Valley Railway to Kidderminster.
